Whip & Tear
2020 – 2023 / Unity
Solo project. Responsible for programming, gameplay, level and enemy design, as well as some light modeling and animation.
Crack the Whip, Toss the Cross and Pour Out Some Holy Water
A whip based third person shooter where the player can take aim and slash their targets at any angle they deem necessary. Upon contact, the player can attempt to grapple them, producing a wide variety of results based on the victim and where they were hit. Pull their leg, drag them over a ledge, yank that weapon out of their hand and toss it back at them.
This prototype started out as an experiment to bridge the gap between how whips are presented in movies (complicated, precise in nature), and how they feel to use in most games (functionally identical to a sword or spear).

Once I was happy with the initial prototype, I wanted to prove to myself I can commit to a long term project and continued to work on new levels, enemies, and mechanics. It has become a springboard for many concepts I hope can be transferred into new projects.

Controls
| Input | Name | Description |
| Left Trigger | Aim Mode | Camera changes to an aiming mode. Player cannot move in this state. |
| Left Trigger + Right Trigger | Straight Shot | Throws the whip in a straight line producing a thin projectile that travels between the player and the tip of the whip. |
| Left Trigger + Right Trigger + Left Stick | Slash Shot | Swings the whip in a slashing motion perpendicular to the player, with the left stick dictating the angle, direction and width of the projectile, which lies at the tip of the whip. |
| Hold RT during whip attack | Grapple | Attempts to grapple the first object or enemy the whip makes contact with. Producing different effects and actions depending on what is hit and where the whip made contact. |
| Tap RT during whip attack | Crack | Cancels the whip attack early and produces a small explosion in it’s place. This explosion can ignore armor and cover unlike the whip projectile. |
